Sicilian is good. I play it.
playing the sicilian (it kinda worked)

He is only saying not to play Najdorf for lower levels. Once you get like 1600 Najdorf is really strong. It just takes a ton of memorization

yeah that's what I meant
and also I quit playing the sicilian because it requires so much theory the caro is way easier to learn

I disagree. Najdorf really sucks why memorize a bunch of stuff just play like Sveshnikov, that's just my opinion.

well tbh there is a significant rating difference between us so i'm pretty sure people at my level would be playing some offbeat stuff

In the Najdorf, black should play 4...Nf6, white usually defends the e-pawn with 5.Nc3, and then 5...a6. This avoids the Maroczy Bind white likes to play with 5.c4. Also notice that black's earlier ...d6 prepared ...Nf6 because it stopped white from playing 5.e5.
Edit: My move numbers were wrong. They're fixed now.

I like the najdorf but i am personally a Classical sicilian player. but i would play the Najdorf as well.

The Najdorf is fun to play. It's not for the faint of heart, though. The Najdorf is an opening suitable for knuckle-dragging, hairy-backed MEN, not for dilettantes.

er.. ok then . _.

Hi in the first diagram, the main line is not 5. Nc3. White tends to want to avoid playing Nc3 for the time being and will often play 5. Bd3.
Against 3. c3 in that first game, I would play 3. ...d5 and I have the choice of whether to recapture with the pawn or the queen. I would prefer with the Q. On move 7 after c4, Ndb4 looks really interesting for black. He has to move the queen and then you play pawn takes on d4. Looks better for black.
He's right about the Najdorf. It's way, way too difficult even for an intermediate player, let alone a relative beginner.
yeah I put Nc3 in the diagram because it looked like a more natural move to me than Bd3. Both work out fine in my opinion
and i'm also confused myself why I didn't play Nbd4 there
Gotham: but no one is gonna play like that
Me: They play like that bc I'm higher rated
Gotham: Gets a dead lost position against an 1800 sub that he got lucky on and didnt lose
Me: Already knew that line long before from learning it the hard way
Gotham: This is my homework, Qg8 wow, I gotta add this to my course
Me: I dont need your course, I have analyzed a ton of lines with stockfish already on my lichess study
Gotham: dont play the Najdorf, dont play queen's gambit, dont play English
Me: Plays them all

Optimissed, you mean the second diagram?
This is the Najdorf, with 4...Nf6 5. Nc3 a6:

he said don't play qga as black
yep but also not recommended d4d5 for black at all
so I was watching gothamchess yesterday, and he was talking about what 4 openings you should not play. One of them was the Najdorf sicilian which goes like this
I'm not going to go into detail why he said not to play the Najdorf, but he did say that if you're going to play the sicilian, play either the Dragon of the Kan sicilian. I was curious about the Kan so I looked into it a bit
so after one day of learning it, I decided, 'you know what i'm just gonna go for it and play it in a game'. and sure enough I got it on my first game. well sort of lol
and after I declined his rematch, he sends me a chat message saying lol of course you don't accept the rematch. not really trash talking in my books lol
but yeah that's about it and btw i'm just learning this for fun my main opening against e4 is c6
