Please explain how to interpret what is written in the results' column of Chess Results website

For instance this is from a tournament I took part in. How is one to make sense of what is written in the results section (right most column)

Since there are an equal number of "w" and "s" I'm guessing that these might be the color designations in some language

Yeah its very confusing. I can't make head or tail of it.

I found out from reading an old post on reddit that "s" means the player played as black.  It makes sense once you know that.  
Where they got s for black from I don't know.

[EDIT]  Seems it comes from the German schwarz, alongside Wieß.
