please tell me how to make sure my games are rated

Read the challenge carefully. It always says "Rated" or "Unrated".

It depends on how you play.

On the Android App it looks like:

The website provides more information for you.

For Android:

• Days per move is how many days you have to make your move (this is also on the website, just not on that panel)

For both:

• Rated Game will say Rated if it is rated.
• I Play As will let you know if you are going to be White, Black or if the system will randomly assign colors.

For the website:

• Record is how many games our opponent has won/loss/drawn for Daily
• Timeouts tells you how many games, as a percentage, your proposed opponent has timed out in over the last 90 days
• Avg. Time/Move is the average time it takes your opponent to move; if they have a lot of ongoing games, that can be a bit misleading and they still may take the full time control to make many of their moves.
• Current Games how many games your opponent is currently playing
• Vacation how many days of vacation your opponent has available
• Adjustment is how many points you'll gain/lose based on the outcome, based on your opponent's current rating. However, the actual rating change will be based on your opponent's rating at the completion of the game, yours, and your respective rating deviation (RD) values at that time.
