Well step one stop playing blitz, at least for awhile.

Spend more time looking for candidate moves instead of just playing the first moves that looks decent like you do in blitz. look for your opponents best responses.

Usually there since critical point in the game, you have to know when, where you will likely have a long think.

Relatable, 

check you variations, and look for impossible moves that you immediately discard because “well this happens”. Chances are, your opponent will see something you don’t in the so called “bad” lines... or at least that is my own experience. And when having multiple good moves, try to find the BEST move. WHY would you play this move over others? If you cannot provide concrete reasoning and lines then don’t make the move.
