Points?

I've been wondering for some time now, what exactly are the points that show up on our profiles? I know that we get them for commenting on things, like forums, blogs, vote chess games, etc, but how much do we get for what? And why?

Once upon a time back when the world was young and Chess.com was just getting started, Tshirts were given to those who accumulated a certain number of points as a way of encouraging participation in the forums.  Today they serve no use except to show how active a member you are.

You can earn a point by making a one-word post in a thread. For example, "Bruh". A lot of obnoxious kids do that. The points must be important to them...

The points are like points in a video game. The more points you get the higher score you have.
