Points should be different for white compared with black

Statistically, white has an advantage. This fact is shown in tournament sudden death where white and black have different victory conditions.

I think the points for white and black should be slightly different, both for win and for draw.

And don't turn this thread into some racism joke or meme. Keep that garbage out of here.

It's not a bad idea... it's somehow... how to say it... overly exact for people to ever do it, but I think it's a reasonable enough idea.

I dunno. I feel like with the percentages of games won/drawn by white vs. black, it's enough of a difference to justify 1 point difference on the usual 8 points. So like for an even ranked match which would otherwise be +8 / 0 / -8 in the current system, it could be something like +9 for black winning, +1 for black drawing, -8 for black losing.

Even if it turns out to need fractional points, it could still work. Like two 1050 players vs. each other, maybe it won't be different than now because it rounds down. But 1050 vs. 1060 maybe it would round up to give a point in favor of black. Do they just not want to math?

sounds good enough to be an idea... i mean yea my stats were like 55% win white and black 45%.. like it or not white do have slight advantage.. or atleast maybe the system make us have white and black position alternately.. i once get 5-6x black turn i think..hahahha

No, chess is a draw. The path to the draw is wider for white and narrower for black.

This.

Which, again, means white has an advantage. Also "chess is a draw" is an assumption and is not objectively proven.

There's actually a stupidly easy way to implement my suggestion. Just calculate as normal, but as if the white player had slightly higher rating. However many points. Done.

This actually seems like a reasonable idea.

If players were stuck with the same color, it would make sense, but we're not so it doesn't.

Chess is still chess. Scoring isn't part of the game, so individual leagues would be able to alter scoring in any case. But it wouldn't be the same game, so not such a good idea.

Rating doesn't stop chess from being chess though... it would still be the same game if you altered the rating a little bit, right?

it's a reasonable idea imo, but should only be like 1 - 2 points difference maximum

I said from the beginning it should be a small difference. Maybe a point. But the idea of calculating the white player as if they had slightly higher rating is really the way to go. Just a question of how many rating points higher. 10? 20? Is this already implemented and we didn't notice? Lol.

No, not right. Football was changed out of all recognition by the three points for a win system. In that case it was probably changed for the better. In any case, we are talking about individual leagues here aren't we?

Anyway, some people play more aggressively as black and some as white, so such a change would disadvantage some players.

Here we go again. Blacks always wanting special privileges.

This thread is dumb, sure white has an advantage, but that advantage may be worth only like 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 points. Why you have higher win rate as white is due to psychology. I can explain this psychology further if you want.

Tell that to all the GM's that struggle a lot to win as black against people of the same level.

White first move advantage apply to 55% win or +35 elo.

If there is + 50 rating gap, which is quite common, then better player count , not the color!

That’s not a bad Idea actually as my win rate with white is 62% and with black it’s 59%
