Possible Bug in Live Chess Seeks

Over the last few days, I've noticed something strange when I try to find a new game in Live Chess.  When I click on a new game, chess.com only searches for players rated plus or minus 25 points of my rating, which makes it very difficult to find a game and I'd like to play a more varied group of opponents.  I've located the settings and changed it to plus or minus infinity, plus or minus 400, plus or minus 200, and so on, but nothing works.  The seek always remains at plus or minus 25 and tells me that I should expand the range to get paired faster (which I'd love to do, but can't).  Does anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?

P.S. I'm actually looking for a solution to this problem, so comments like "just wait a little longer for a game" or "it's not that big of a deal..." will be blocked.

It shouldn't matter, since I would think the ranges should load from the DB, but try clearing your cache and see if that helps.

I don't really know what that means.  How do you do that?

@Martin_Stahl:  I tried that but it didn't work?  Any other tips?  I really appreciate any help

I'n not sure if there is a viable solution... Chess.com does try to put you with people close to you, but if they aren't there it should be faster as it pairs with more varied players. But I guess it dosen't in your case...

If your on the app, maybe try to re-download it, or check your on a normal chess game, not 960.

Also, if your playing unrated that might be a reason, as less people do.

If none of these work, I'm afraid you might have to just sit tight.

@VicountVonJames I'm playing rated and I'm not using the app.  Anytime I hit new game it indicates it's only looking for people plus or minus 25 points, and I have no idea why.  What does it say when you do a seek?

Sorry if this is a little rude but do you hit the save button after changing your settings?

What viariant? Just normal chess?

And you aren't using a custom time control?
Avatar of knighttour2

@SuperSam1 yes I'm saving, although there's no default for plus or minus 25.  I don't know where the number came from.  It doesn't show up anywhere except when I hit new game.  Not rude at all.  I appreciate any attempt to help.

Vicount: only happens during normal chess.  It happens during 2/1 and 3/2.  I haven't tried anything else.  No custom controls.  I haven't tried for variants but I will soon.  Normally when I play variants I click on a challenge someone else has made

Update: a search for 3 min KOTH seeks a range of plus or minus 300

What does it do when you try Custom Challenge instead? After playing a game that way, see if the original way you were trying it changed or not.

Martin: I tried custom and it was the same, despite the settings saying plus or minus infinity.  Then I tried the normal new game and nothing changed.  Both say searching for plus or minus 25

I suggest opening a proper ticket.

Is there any specific staff member that might be able to help?  My experience with opening tickets isn't great...

Well, since a developer will likely need to look into it, a ticket would be best. Or a proper bug report from the option in the help menu.

If you sign-in on the ticket system, it should give you a little better response, but all tickets should get some activity in a 24-48 hours (business hours).

I have not noticed this, and I play a lot of 5 minute blitz chess.  I miss the tournaments, but the live chess option produces an opponent within 50 rating points of me in 5 seconds max.  How's your internet connection?

I have a question: Are you on computer? Computer's working. No bug. And by the way, email chess.com if you need help. One last tip, reload the page if nothing works.

Other things you might try:

1.  Turn machine off, then back on.

2.  Plug it into another outlet.

3.  Six-inch drop onto your desk.

4.  Six-foot drop onto the floor.

5.  Ten seconds on high in a microwave oven.
