Prison Chess

Hi I want to know if anyone wants to start a group for inmates. Like a lot of chess.com members I learned the moves when I was locked up on some charges and I want to show some support for my ppl still in the pen.

I know when my boy Rashim lost his computer access to chess.com he stuffed a whole chess board and pieces inside his self so he could learn in solitary. Also Tarnell stabbed a boy when he lost once. Me I'm staying out of trouble for now but I can't say I'll be out forever because u never know what life brings u.

Not sure what you are asking...

Are you wanting to start a group that consists of ex-prisoners, or do you mean you'd like to start a group that plays against people who are still locked up? I think that you mean the 2nd one, though I'm not sure how this is done? Is there computer access in prison for us to play against them? Do you mean we play vote chess games and someone goes to prison to pass on moves? Sorry for my ignorance, but I've never actually been to prison myself, so I don't know exactly what the privilages are. Maybe if you provide a little move information on what it is exactly you are trying to do as I am a little interested.

What Im saying though is like

If you get locked up or been locked up before doesn't matter because we share the same struggle.

Like my boy Lamar carved a chess set out of soap but his celly used to to wash his self. Lamar got mad and stabbed him in the eye with the queen. Dude doesn't have an eye anymore but now we call him squeaky queen.

Thats real life.

I'm sure other chess.com inmates can share the struggle in a new group.

Thanks steve u remind me of a CO when I was in lockup who was nice to me, we called him Fat Curtis.

One time I was playing chess in the yard and Fat Curtis walks up and doesn't know how to play. Well I start showing him how the pieces move but the other inmates are looking as us sideways cause the CO is distracted.

Well Tarnell who I talked about before decides he's gonna run and try to jump over the fence and Fat Curtis doesn't see him in time.

Tarnell got shot and taken to solitary but I got 41 days in the hole too cause I distracted the CO. They said I planned it but noone can predict Tarnell.

Anyway Fat Curtis knew it wasn't right and he brought chess books down to the hole to keep me occupied probably cause he felt bad and that's how I got good.

That's real life.

Peace and love

I'm waiting for the prison championship featuring iplayforrock vs. tossinsalad.  The match was delayed after tossinsalad's second died of hemmorhaging trying to smuggle Silman's Complete Endgame Course up his bum.

I ran a chess program at a prison for more than 2 years. Met every other week. I rather enjoyed it. I hope I helped some of the inmates with some of their life choices as well as their chess.

I once went to Stateville in Illinois. It is a very stark prison.
they actually had a kind of chess club at the time.

So, I was in a room with about a dozen prisoners.  They were very happy to see me. I was doing a simul against all in the room. I won 2 or 3 games but was having problems with some of the other games.  As it turned out I lost 4 games and won  7 with a draw. My worse result in a simul. But they were very good. They were interested in my USCF rating which was expert at the time.  [This was about 40 years ago]

Later, there was a "crack down" at that prison and I never was able to go back.

i want to say hello to all prisoners. ive never been to prison, but once or twice to jail for 5 days. i saw there was a chess set at the table so i and my inmate played it. this happened was over 15 years ago. not bad for killing 5-day time :D
