Resolved: Problem with chess computer thinking

hi,

Was playing against the chess computer as white, and it was it's move but it just kept displaying 'Computer thinking' for ever, so in the end I gave up.  Does this always happen.

It does this in many positions.  I haven't played it in awhile, maybe they've cleared up some.  I have to doubt they've made much progress though, as they were asking for the positions where it happened.  Seems they're slowly fixing each symptom, but don't know what's causing it.

Unless I'm mistaken, isn't Rh6 checkmate?

yes it is, I was testing the computer to see how good it was, so I was surprised that it was 'thinking' for so long ;)
.... OK, I'll be honest - in truth I overlooked the check-mate on the next move so wish I hadn't posted it now.  Maybe the computer was thinking 'what a silly move' and got confused Foot in mouth

Seems the computers are doing more thinking than the humans on this site.  I fixed the problem a couple of times going back then forward not logging in or something like that, but I couldn't replicate the remedy.  With me play, playing white, I move, computer moves, I move, computer thinks, and thinks and thinks......I never had this problem until they changed Stupid to Basic in the difficulty setting.  I'm gonna try playing black and then try and find an earlier version to download.

Try using back and forward arrows to start new game, play black and press new game.  After you've moved your pieces 2 or 3 times press switch sides. Sometimes when that game is over you can start playing white, sometimes.  But not all the time.

We've just added a fix for the 'against the computer' issues members have been experiencing.

Can you go into computer chess, look on the bottom right corner of your monitor. Can you click on the java icon then Open Control Panel.

Once this is open, use the bottom box where it says 'Settings'  - when that new box opens, click where it says 'delete files'.
Then OK

Once you've done this, refresh the page.

Sometimes the java icon is turned off from appearing in the tray.  If you're running windows....

start button/control panel/java/advanced/miscellaneous/check box "Place icon in system tray"

Also try clearing your cache, and even your java cache. see: http://www.java.com/en/download/help/plugin_cache.xml

Then try 'against the computer' for me.  If you're still having issues on there can you please let me know in detail whats happening.

Thanks
