Problems with the clock.

I do not know where to post this question, but hopefully I can get an answer this way.

I have a cousin who is quite in to chess and plays in tournaments all the time. I have barely played in my life and when I first tried playing with him a won. But then, we tried playing with 5 minutes on the clock and I couldn't think long enough to make the right move. I don't know if there is such a thing as a slow player but it kind of feels like a problem considering all the players I've heard of can play with time. Maybe I just need time to learn to read the game quicker or something. But my question is if there are different kinds of chess players? Some that are good with time and some that may be just as good but need more time to think. Or do I just need time?

Im very confused.

i play a lot of bullet chess (1 min games).  a real chess match you have all the time you need to make moves.  Maybe blitz or bullet isn't for you but that's not the highest level chess anyways.  I like bullet chess because it is quick and i like the metagame of avoiding time loss.  As you play more chess and positions become familiar you can play a lot faster.
