Lola, wait up!

The_Ghostess_Lola

Ohh Kittycat....

....do you purr ?

The_Ghostess_Lola

Here's the game from #109....

BTW, it's sooo weird to see a position like that for White after 22. Nc1....

0sumPuzzlerDtoWL

must, not can; compulsory then and there, not optional

But the timebomb idea is bodacious.  'Twould make Promotion overpowered tho'

The_Ghostess_Lola

I feel it would be almost insignificant. Tho' it would probably impact blitz the most & setup some fanciful stalemates in lower level snail chess.

Tja_05

The time bomb idea is awesome! But if a pawn stays a pawn and can't become anything else, that is just ridiculous.

The_Ghostess_Lola

The King has spoken....hear ye hear ye !....King Tremani has spoken !

We can all go home now 'cuz he just solved everything for us....whew !

Tja_05

Great... NOW can we go home?

Tja_05

Lol

Tja_05

Why couldn't we go home before?

       Since a pawn can not move backwards, then it has no offensive value when it reaches the other end of the board. Suggestion....move your Q to the end of  the board  and underpromote it to a pawn...Happy now?

The_Ghostess_Lola

Now that's mouthy.....

Why couldnt it just move as it normally does, straight forward. Any other promotion the pieces move as originally intended, a pawn should too. If a promotion is to a pawn, I think it should start moving the same direction as the opponents pawns. The rule say you cant promote to a pawn, but if it were allowed, why not allow it to start moving again and do all the things a pawn can do. Since that's what happens to any other promotion

Ever heard of a turncoat ?....I see nothing wrong w/ promoting to an opponent's piece either !

It could be helpful in a very rare circumstance....dontcha feel ?

IcyAvaleigh

In most cases it would help your opponent I guess

If the pawns reverse in direction, imagine a White pawn going e6xd5. Your opponent will be thinking, 'How can pawns capture backwards???'. Or imagine the White pawn is allowed to move three squares from the first rank, e8 --> e5.

And how will we be able to distinguish a forward moving pawn from a reverse direction pawn if we have both kinds of pawns on the board? And imagine we have a pawn at e4 that previously moved two squares from e2, and another pawn from the d-file that made a capture on e6, moves to e8 and then to e5. So now we have a forward moving e4 pawn and a backward moving e5 pawn. Now both pawns cannot move without making captures of enemy pieces.

@The_Ghostess_Lola

@IcyAvaleigh

Promotion to an opponent colour piece used to be legal, but today the rules that we are aware of does not permit a promotion to an opponent colour piece. I show you one example where one such promotion can be justified.

You can verify that a promotion to a Black knight is the only way to land a checkmate in one turn. Remember, while White promotes to a Black piece, it is now Black's turn to move as usual, not White's. And the new Black knight prevents the king from escaping by the g8 route.

Unfortunately, I think there is a forum on this previously though.
