I don't think that's ever happened to me.

I wonder if it has anything to do with me still running windows 7 using internet explorer on a ten year old Acer laptop?

I have not had this occur to me, but I mostly use my phone for tactics trainer. You might need to clean out the cookies and temp internet files on your laptop? Sometimes that helps the craziest problems. 

Good call. I cleared them all,  now I'll wait and see.  I still think it's the out of date browser and windows seven opens me to hackers.
Or this site is colluding with advertisers.

For the most part it seems to redirect me a foxfire signup page.
