I am a beginner in chess,i am researching about improving my skills in chess,i seen some articles in internet,i ended in a doubt.so i tought of asking here.
i went through some chess articles regarding improving chess board vision/finding good moves.
so many articles suggested that doing puzzles will improve my skills.
so i am trying puzzles in websites/mobile apps.
i am just doing mate in 1 ,mate in 2 problems, also some problems regarding gaining advantage from a given position,
regarding mate in 1 problems i could do around with 80-90% accuracy, regarding mate in 2 problems i am getting a score of arround 60-70%.
my questions were
i)is my puzzle solving percent ok for a beginner?
ii) i read an article here
http://chess.stackexchange.com/questions/1103/how-do-i-learn-to-understand-the-middlegame
it states that instead of just solving puzzles lookout for pattern/themes in a given position.
sounds good to me,but i wanted to know what you guys are doing when playing a game?
do you always calculate deeply for each and every move or just looking for patterns(like pin fork) / mates listed in that thread .
i am just curious....
