Puzzles - why no 'partial credit'?

I see a lot of puzzles where, while there is a "best" sequence of moves, there are also alternate paths that still win material. I think it's kind of crappy that you get zero credit for ever finding anything winning, other than the single path expected. To me it should at least penalize you less, if you find a path that wins material.

A well designed puzzle has one clearly best solution.

Please provide an example where you think partial credit is deserved.

The puzzle system was only designed to have a single solution and that should be the best solution. Some puzzle do give partial credit for finding some of the moves in the solution line, though not all do.
