I just lost a daily chess game on a 1-day timer, and I genuinely do not understand how the clock system works.
I consistently respond within about 12 hours of each move. Yesterday (Monday) I made my move around PM. Today (Tuesday) I discovered I had already lost on time by approximately PM.
How is that considered a full 24 hours?
Unless I fundamentally misunderstand the timing system, that is closer to 18–19 hours, not an entire day. Is the clock calculated differently in daily games? Does the timer continue running under certain conditions after a move is made?
I am asking sincerely because this does not seem mathematically correct from my perspective.
You'll have 24 hours after your opponent’s previous move before you lose on time.
Assuming Gemini calculated correctly, the game ended 26 hours after your opponent's last move
