The openings you chose will generally reflect your personality type. If youre one of those walking nike commercials "win at all costs" then youll prefer open games. The Ruy Lopez fot white, and the Sicilian for black would probably suit you.
If youre more of the laid back type like me. Then youll probably prefer something more positional, like the the English for white, and the French, or Caro Khan as black.
Experiment with different openings and se what appeals to you.
Good Luck!
Hey, I'm finally trying to seriously get into chess after having an affinity for the game for many years. I am currently trying to build an opening repertoire (Yes I'm aware that tactics beat out opening memorization for people of my skill level) but I was wondering if it is a good idea to build an opening set of similar style or not. I have been reading and testing the c3 sicilian, the 9. Nbd2 form of the french, and the Ponziani for white since all three of these can transpose fairly well and have similar goals. Is this a good plan? or am I better off trying to get other openings down.
