His answer was that he uses an engine.
Ah, so he just does not know about engines. But I am not going to wise him up on strengths and weaknesses of the engines he might be intending to use for his 1 minute method.

I just made a thread to see if it was known U2300, above 2300 I will never know since titled players don`t interract here, I guess like me they would not tell anyway. My online rating will go all the way to 2100 just on the trick, then I need to correct some other things in my chess, should be 2200 in online rating within 4 month.
Note to paul211: When one wants to play a move that leads to exchanges that needs calculations then my method is at work. 1..d5 is one such move.
The assessment helps with this: I want to enter a line with exchanges and/or sacrifices. By using my little trick I can know that it is not losing for me. It does not tell if it wins. It it does not lose it does NOT mean there are no better options than this move, let`s say another quite move is a better option.
So the trick dramatically minimizes mistakes in calculation and can scare off opponent in situations when it looks like losing, when I can always know it does not lose for him, and he cuts the line and that is a mistake and I get a better position. Some times knowing that to enter the sequence does not lose for you leads only to a draw from a slightly worst position. It`s like being able to see the future but not seing it clearly. I don`t know if it`s something titled players discovered I don`t think I am the only one, I dont`t even have this "analytical background" I was just hard-working on my chess, strong curiousity.
Good luck everyone!

let's hear the assessment method so we can go on with our lives but so
much better for having crossed paths....
So now you're saying titled players are all holding on to some calculation secret which they will never divulge to us?
Sounds likely.
Yes get_over_here please re post in four months when you reach 2200
Titled chess players require some application and a fine mind also, by titled i mean FM or higher
Those offering 'short-cut' theories, able to decide anything within a minute, would be cranks
I'm happy to occasionally play without 'thinking' 1) following a known line to the end of the game 2) applying positional play from known strategies. But analysis of variations is usually needed and for me the most enjoyable part of chess
>:)
Yes, concrete calculation is absolutely necessary in the given position: 1...d5 is the desired move, but such a move inviting so much open play needs to be calculated to see if it comes out well, because as a result of the center being so fluid, there will be an explosive initiation of tactics, and at that point the determination of the ultimate validity of the desired equalization of the center with 1...d5 all depends on who the ensuing tactics end up favoring.
In a remarkably similar situation I as black tried ...d5, but I was punished because the tactics ultimately didn't favor me.
Mmmmhm? And now imagine being able to see the future, not clearly but enough to know if it will turn out badly to you
Wow. I just read this thread and while OP's rating may go up to 2200 because of this trick, I feel like my rating will drop a few hundred points to 1300 or wherever that would put me because of how confused I am... :)
My guess about this trick is that the best default move is one that retains all options, does not give the opponent any new options, and provides a similar but better position for the next move. It still takes 'calculation' to figure out that the other side would be so limited by your move that it is like a free move...'Waiting' moves come up all the time.
but Pure and obvious situations that require no calculation still require observation, and in this game, that is the same thing imo. I will be impressed if this trick causes a 300 pt. ratings jump... should be interesting.
Verticle, don`t worry. My trick alone does not make me a 2200 fide player. Players above 2000 fide will not enter complications they understand they have no control over. a 2000+ player won`t accept my sacrifice that leads to a forced sequence that I know is safe for me but may cause opponent practical or objective problems(but here is the good part. Some times to accept a sacrifice is the only not losing continuation. It`s like playing a poker game and in theory both have 50% of hitting what player needs on the next card but one player has ability to see the future and knows that he is not going to lose so the only who risks is the second player who will lose such an encounter where situation is" accept sacrifice or enter forced sequence -to be or not to be" every second time/every game). So with some work + my trick, I will be 2200 in online chess before May 2011 which is around 2160 fide.

Um... you seem to have some misconception about the correspondence of chess.com and FIDE ratings. I just recently passed the 2100 mark here but I don't see how I could be much higher than 1800 FIDE (although I never tried).
Azukikuru, if you are really sure you are not 2000+ fide in your playing strenght(it`s stupid to judge your level by your old fide rating) then you archieved over 2000 in online chess by stealing points from very low opposition, playing only several games at a time and thow using like 1 hour on each move. While I always play players above 1800 online chess rating and use as much time as I would if it was a long tournament game.
Those who play many games- not just a few at a time, not playing weaker opponents they always match to their fide rating, some times their online rating is LOWER than their fide rating but never higher than 50 points. I checked many players.
From 1900 online rating to 2200 online rating usualy it is around player`s fide rating. Under 1900 online rating is higher than fide. Above 2200 online rating is lower than fide. I have seen IMs who plays great with full consentration online chess and they are always around 2300-2350 online chess when their real fide is above 2400.

tell you what, next time you enter a tournament and win with that method(and continue on to winning the World Championship a few months from now), you could publish your method in a 30-minute video and make a few hundred million dollars+revolutionize the world of chess.
Until then, you could tell us(and ruin your big chance for riches) or keep it for a nice surprise weapon in the future...
