I'm also learning to play go. But I don't think playing one you improve in the other.
Question for Go players
Sorry for the Necromancy, but just found this.
I switched from chess to go about 10 years ago, fell in love, and while I enjoy chess, I don't really play that often anymore.
When I do play chess now, I'm aware that my reading is still there, even better actually, but the game has lost its familarity. I can't rest on my previous experience to suggest candidate moves, and so end up having to waste my reading on finding moves, rather than reading those moves out.
I think they're both great games, and both will train your ability to calculate, but if you want to get good at chess, study chess. Likewise for go.

I'm starting to get into the game of Go lately. It's a game very rich in tactics and strategy....very different from Chess.I was wondering....have any of you noticed any improvement in your Chess improvement from taking up Go?
