question for grandmasters please
Begin at 4 or 5 years of age, have a good coach from the very beginning, spend many many hours studying, playing (and winning) tournaments.
If everything goes very well then maybe when you are 15 you can become a GM.
If you are already 20 or older then the answer is NEVER. You can become a good player but not a GM.

THIS! by Jeremy Silman should be THE wake-up to reality call to all!
In ANY case, having a sub-1000 rating and already thinking GM Title is like a kid on a 4-hour car trip asking, "Are we there yet?" 1/2 hour into the drive!
