In the set up position the letter and numbering come from the back side. It is very annoying. Any way possible to fix it? Thank you.

congrandolor

what do you think about the forum "A bust to the Sicilian defense"?

Make sure under "Details/Theme" you have "Flip Board" unticked. (You don't need a grandmaster to answer that one.)

The poster left after 1 month.  Guess this was more a challenge than a question.

Amazingly, I managed Fool's Mate against a stranger in a pub once (except I was White so it took three moves) but I don't think he was a grandmaster - in fact he said he wasn't very good before we started playing.

What It Takes to Become a Grandmaster by GM Andrew Soltis

Ok here are the questions I would ask, all to do with learning chess:

1) How did chess masters analyze openings prior to computer analysis. Often the difference between a good and a mediocre opening move is incredibly subtle, and without computer analysis I have no idea how I would go about analyzing them.

2) How do chess masters get so natural at thinking in algebraic notation? Is it just from reading lots of chess books or do prodigies initially make themselves think of the notation when they're moving in games or when analyzing.

3) When do chess masters first learn how to evaluate positions intuitively, for example being able to say 'white is slightly ahead here' or 'the position is roughly equal' Is this just something that comes after playing 10000s of games?

4) When you first started playing chess, did you develop a system for avoiding blunders? i.e. a fixed set of steps that you go through in exactly the same way every move in order to make sure that you haven't blundered?

Cheers

Is it possible to get a Checkmate without a single piece leaving the board (capturing/losing pieces)?

MARattigan

Doesn't need a grandmaster. Any Fool can answer that.
