Quiting too soon

I have only played 14 games on Chess.com.  I have not really played since I was in high school.  With that qualification out of the way I have found in my 14 games that I feel like my opponent has given up too soon!  As soon as they make a mistake where I get a clear advantage they resign.  As a result I am getting no endgame practice and neither are they.  Sure, I may have the advantage but mistakes are made.  I just won a game where I was down a pawn and my opponent was in a better position but he ended up making a mistake.  I would like to see more games make it to the endgame!

@OP: Don't worry. Fourteen games is negligible. Literally thousands of games wait to be played. Just keep playing, and you will get plenty of endgame practice.

You can also use Tactics Trainer, Computer Workout, and other tools to refine your endgame skills as a supplement.

You could always seek out stronger opponents who are more likely to not bend over so quickly.  Also, correspondence chess is very different than live chess  where nerves + time management etc.  play a big factor. Might want to give that a try as well ... you'll find more people playing it out till the bitter end.

@Shivsky, re: stronger opponents: However, if the opponents are too strong, then the OP will likely lose games in the middlegame, defeating the purpose.

@whirlwind2011:

Not speaking generically, but in the OP's case, he's 14-0-0 with a few 1600-1700 opponents ... so I'm sure he's not going to lose dramatically against a few 1900-2100 players. Also, those classes of players are likely to fight it out till the end and not give in so quickly.

Not saying seek out Masters but just 100-200 points higher can't hurt :)

I aways start the games on my phone.  I never see open chalenges from higher players...

I am not complaining.  I will take the wins.  I just think they could still win and give up!

I agree. That should be just right for him.

You are close to 1900 now so if you play in that range or higher people won't generally resign unless they are clearly beaten, of course that is easier said than done! Cool

winning 14/0 afters years of no practice seems a bit conspicuous to me.I'm not accussing him of cheating or using a prog but it just seems improbable. I mean who is this guy fischer or capablanca reincarnated?

Then he posts a topic bragging that no1 can make it 2 endgame with him. keep up the infallible chess playingWink

lol im 1600 on chess mentor and like 1427 in uscf normally for endgame practice i go on chess mentor and search ones way above my level like 2400+

yeah my Uscf is 1983. i have a low online rating due to countless timeouts (which are the cause of 80% of my losses), but this guys opening theory is flawless which is usually learned or taught but it comes natural to this guy. I guess miracles do happen.

I WAS very good at chess... I had a mentor who worked with me for years... however I assumed everyone consulted books or used the opening data base on chess.com... My middle game is great but I am weak in openings and the end game... so far everyone I have played has also had flawless open play...

Avatar of Shivsky

To be clear : Correspondence chess historically always allow book references + opening database use . Props to you if you don't use it or need it but there's nothing to complain about if your opponent uses it.

Engines are another matter.

In all fairness,  the OP's post *might* be interpreted as pompous but you're hearing only what you want to hear ... he did clearly indicate that his opponents are not getting endgame practice either.

Opening databases should get you to the middlegame fairly even  that is what they are for, after that you are on your own. No matter what subject you post a topic on nowadays somebody is going to attack you for really no reason. but remember even though you said your endgame is weak just to let you know endgame databases along with engines are not allowed. Cool

Just to clarify I was saying that I thought I could still lose and they quit... I did not feel like I had won...
