I wondered about that myself. I realy couldn't think of when it would be appropriate to send such a trophy. So, never sent or received one.
"I Slipped" trophy

When I blunder away a hard fought game with a ridiculous move I feel somewhat guilty. My opponent has put thought, time, and energy into our game and to just throw away all that hard work with a single move, I can see this trophy as a way of apologizing. I would much rather win a hard fought accurate battle then on an opponents blatant blunder cheapening the whole effort. Perhaps this trophy should be considered in that light, as a friendly apology and not in a mocking tone.
Edit, PS, I haven't sent or received one either.
i would just send a message with an actually apology in that case - i don't think it works as a trophy - a trophy is a recognition of a good job; it's to commemorate some kind of superior effort or performance. i got one of these "i slipped" things; it just didn't hit me right. no big deal though

You could send it tongue-in-cheek, like when you get totally outplayed and never really had a chance.

another aspect is, maybe i though i did something to try to cause my opponet to overlook something - there is such a thing as psychology in chess - i could never know whether it actually worked, but it seems like to send this trophy dismisses that possibility. wow, i gotta get a life ...

Isn't it a reference to Once Upon a Time in America?
That was indeed Dominic's line when he is killed by the knife wielding Bugsy.

I agree with mateStorm on this one - the trophies like that ('I was drunk', 'I slipped', etc.) can easily be seen as saying "You didn't win, I lost", which seems bitter and petty. I don't know, maybe that is just the way I read it and there is some other meaning to those trophies that I don't quite get.

another aspect - in just about any competition, the one who makes the least mistakes often wins anyway, & outright blunders happen at the highest levels of competition - look at golfer phil mickelson - man was a blunder on wheels - and he didn't send this trophy. no. he didn't send this trophy. :)
The "I slipped" idea is interesting. I have to share the computer at home with my family, and the setup is not ideal for me. Sometimes I lose a game because problems controlling the mouse cause me to drop a piece on the wrong square. This is frustrating and would not happen with a real board, but there is nothing to be done about it: I just have to accept the loss. Does this ever happen to anyone else?

I think it has nothing to do with chess; maybe it's what Bill said to Hillary a couple thousand times
