I did not pass it off as my own, chess.com places the "wrote by" information at the top by my name and it was from another web site not batgirls that it was cut from, she or he decided to add information to this forum. I hope this helps.

You absolutely did pass it off as your own-whether it was intentional or not is a different matter. No reference or source to the original material (Batgirl's or otherwise).
As for ncpharaoh, you describe yourself as a writer in your profile. Are you saying you're quite happy for others to lift your work and use it without attribution of any sort?
And no, I wouldn't like this site to be the same as Facebook, i'd prefer it to be like the real world where my writings are my writings unless someone either pays for them or gets my permission to use them. Something wrong with that??
Why are you so angry about this situation? Did someone still your work at some time and you are misplacing this rage? There are plenty of people using the work of other's on this site and everywhere else . It doesn't bother me as long as they are not profiting in some way from it. Members of this site use avatars that do not belong to them, but I do not care about that or what Popinjay did or didn't cut and paste. I think you have other issues and are attacking on that basis. Look inside and find what the real problem is and work from there.

Just to clarify, as Popinjay mentioned, the cut and paste was not from a Batgirl page, I gave the link earlier, here it is again,
Batgirl's material is typically better written and more accurate (hence EvilHomer's comment).
I notice Ncpharoah never answered any of the points in my reply to him either. Despite being a writer according to his profile he doesn't seem to understand much about libel or trademarking and I do hope his writing is in some other language than English as his punctuation and spelling are atrocious.
Like I said earlier, I have no major issue with Popinjay, although with such a large post giving a link or credit is normal it's no big deal to me, chalk it up to inexperience, but to keep defending it with inaccurate arguments is a bit rich.
Ncpharoah, nice to see you defending someone so strongly but please refrain from calling us all bullies just for making factual non-malicious comments.
p.s. xqsme I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for legal references and precendents on the copyright issue from someone who posts "inaccurate" as a rebuttal.

Are you joking or what? Any contortions on my part involved finding different ways to convey a quite simple concept in a way you could understand it. But it seems a futile endeavor since an issue with you doesn't seem to be so much the ability to understand but the contentious refusal to do the same.
