Rapid Chess Ranking

Yesterday I was ranked about 19,600 in rapid with a percentile of 99.9%. Today I am ranked 14,200 in rapid with a percentile of 99.6%. What happened? (No rating changes.)
Chess.com is dying I think

I think this means that a lot of higher and weaker (mostly weaker players) disappeared. I thought chess was really growing because I had a 502 sever overload error a few days ago. Also, the molbile app can be super slow (especially around analysis), so I thought this meant there was an influx of members.

Hmm 🤔 interesting
yesterday my percentile is 86.5%, but I just checked my rapid percentile dropped to 79.5%
( also no rating changes )

Monday, with a rapid rating of 602 I was in the 48th percentile, ranked 13,288,130. Today, after winning a game my rating is 611, I'm in the 38th percentile, ranked 2,726,132. That's not possible. 9 rating points can't move me up 10 million places.

If (as mentioned above) chess.com removed inactive (predominant lower rated) accounts not only does that account for the information given above. The the information you have now is more accurate given the ACTIVE players in the various pool. Leaving an account that played 3 games 10y ago and quit in the calculation is not representative of the current pool.

Has anyone seen an explanation from Chess.com about the changes to the rankings & percentiles? It's not the end of the world but it would be nice to know how to make sense of the numbers.

I believe they implemented a system where inactive players are excluded from the percentile calculation. This means that the percentile reflects only the activity of players currently active on chess.com. I could be wrong though this is just what I have heard.

The more I think about it, the less I understand. For example, the leaderboard today shows that the top 500,000 rapid players have ratings over 1300. But the distribution graph has nearly 1,500,000 players rated over 1300. The leaderboard also says that there are 68 million rapid players, but the distribution graph adds up to approximately half that many. Also, both of those numbers (the total number of players & the total of all the distribution graph data points) has gone up slightly since the end of December. If Chess.com has dropped inactive accounts, neither of those numbers show it.

I have noticed a drop as well
I reached my peak of 2101 on Nov 8 2023 and was ranked 6668th in the world. Today, March 30 2024, roughly 6 months later, with a rating of 2073, I am ranked 12361…
Either the website gave high (inactive) ranking players a place in the percentile or Rapid is gaining a lot of popularity lately 🤔
