rapid drop in ratings

ive just played an opponent in three consecutive games. his/her rating dropped from 1000 to 863 to 794! why?!?

I’ve never seen such rapid drop so; by 130+ for a single defeat? My play wasn’t that spectacular. Must be another explanation?

When someone creates a new account their rating is very volatile meaning not steady so they would lose many points. This usually happens when the person starts with a 1200 rating before playing a game and loses or wins.

Eventually it levels off.

Did you google Glicko RD, as I suggested?

The higher your RD, the more points gained or lost in a single game.

Low RD players would gain perhaps 8 points by beating a player of similar rating.

My RD was rather high, and I gained 108 points from this game:
