Wow, I feel pity for his opponent.
Rapport mates in 5!

Rapport mates Rogers in five
The Hungarian GM Richard Rapport had an easy first round versus his English opponent Tim Rogers: 1. e4 c6 2. Nc3 d5 3. Qe2 dxe4 4. Nxe4 Nd7 5. Nd6 mate!

ive had a look on the ecf database, and his opponent is graded 190ecf! about the equivalent of 2150 FIDE!
How come when I play someone that strength they never fall for something like that
Heck,1600's at my level don't fall for that.

ive looked up his actual FIDE, its 2011. his ecf rating is 190 though (about 2125 FIDE), so I imagine his true strength would be somewhere in between!
even so, should be good enough to stop being mated in 5

Before i clicked this topic i figured the 5 move mate would be a caro kann trap since thats the only legit opening i know that can mate early against a unweary opponent in the opening
It really was a Caro Kann like i expected!
( Of course the Qf3 Bc4 formation is too obivous but the caro kann knight mate is very subtle :D )

Well, if you don't know it, you are quite likely not to see it.
But I would have thought that every Caro-Kann player knew it.

Can you imagine the drive home? the horror of introspection!
Hi Doggie !
I'd probably walk....well, skip home in happiness 'cuz I had a nice long break. 'Cuz I was gonna get mated in 30 instead of 5 anywayz........

Rate of play:
90 min for 40 moves + 30 min for the rest of the game + 30 sec increment for every move played starting from the first move.

For far less heinous crimes than a five move checkmate, I've run the whole gamut driving home:
"That's my lot!"
"About time I gave up this bloody game!"
"Don't I ever learn?"
"I must be stupid"
"Face it! you're a choker!"
"Imagine all the time I'd have to pursue other activities, if I just stopped playing..."
Sometimes it goes on for days.
I mean, honestly now, the kids at his chess club are going to be unmerciful. They've probably worked out a whole routine by now, theme tune and all.

90 min for 40 moves + 30 min for the rest of the game + 30 sec increment for every move played starting from the first move.
I thought it was a blitz game. Well this is just tragic. :D

Some people blitz through openings thinking "oh, its just a simple, quite position. I'll just gain some time for later." Then BAM!! "Wha?? Is this for real? What the.....? Crap...... I guess I should have slowed down & thought it through. Early day, at least there's extra rest time." Then they learn to slow down & take even seemingly easy, simple positions seriously. I think that's what happened.
