I think it's possible and maybe even probable. But the average rating of GMs will probably have to increase somewhat for that to happen. A rating of 3000 will be very hard to achieve playing against others in the 2500-2600s, since even a draw will set you back significantly compared to how many points you gain for a win.

That's very true. I was just pointing out that I don't believe it will be just a handful of players "skyrocketing" to the 3000s.
50 years ago the best had 2600, 30 years ago the best had 2700,now the best have 2800 do you think grandmasters can reach 3000 in the next 100 years
