Different pool, different rating. Always.

Of course. But the question is why?

Yes. You raise a good point that fir some people the connection might make a difference.

But this doesn’t explain how a person with a strong and consistently good internet might have a different blitz and bullet rating.

Because there are a combination of factors, technical, human, environmental, relational, physical that all combine. I theorise that more of these come relatively into play when using short time controls.

You have two bags of marbles. You only play with one at any given time. They do not accumulate the same dirt.

But chess ability does not seem to be constant at short and long time controls. The mix of players at short and long time controls is different. And some players may be better at short time controls than long time controls. While other players may be better at longer time controls than shorter time controls.

Of course some are better at the confidence game. Everyone plays better when they have time to think, but the relative differences in skill at different time controls vary from person to person. My blitz has worsened in the past ten years. My knowledge of the game has improved, but my reflexes are slower.

This topic started years ago, but

Fun fact.

To this thread commented around 12 people, and 2 of them were 2000+ rated.

Now, the 2 players with 2000+ rating, have better bullet than blitz.

The rest players (around 80-90%) under 2000 rating, all of them have better blitz than bullet rating.

Now, lets be open eyed. Just check 10 account under 2000 rating, and you will find that 80-90% of them have better blitz rating than bullet.

Definetlly something is off with this, just the site is not calibrated the ratings of disciplines accordingly.

Is stupid to think some players are better at fast games, I mean the vast majority have less bullet point than blitz. It must be a system issue.

My opinion on it is many weaker bullet players (by weaker I mean they can have 1700 blitz 2000 bullet while you can have a 2000 bullet and 2000 blitz , I take this to mean the longer the game the more your skill shows them up . Here is why I think it MAY be this not always but a good amount of the time .. SO, the time difference in bullet vs blitz means the stronger players cannot find a way to end them as fast as needed in a 1 0 game .this works against the stronger player, This allows the weaker player with the same bullet rating to run hide sac a piece do whatever they can to hold on .
They also have premove that I feel favors them here is why , The stronger player premoves a good move more often than the weaker one so their premove will have a better chance of being a purposeful or not purposeful weaker move or blunder you will not catch and many times be losing from this.
So ,I feel premoves do favor the weaker opponent up to a certain level . This can be shown in say OTB anyone that wonders why someone beats them here on time but you win them most often OTB in blitz or lightning You can see their hand move the piece ,they have no mouse edge, any willful tricks or blunders to try to make your move bad will be punished since there is no premove..
as the time increases online it becomes more like you expect over the board . so all these tricks begin to fade until its now skill vs skill. maybe I am not fully correct but its my feelings on it. there are people that simply can see very fast and having longer time doesn't do them as much good so the above is not about those types .. Good luck.

This site has a lot of members who play only bullet. The way they play will not work in blitz or slower play, but it is effective in 1 0. Facing them kills my bullet rating.
