Over the past week, my rating has been on a rollercoaster. I went from 1650 to 1850 over the weekend, then I play a bit throughout the week and my rating dipped back down to 1630, now it's back at 1800. I'm curious if anyone else has this happen to them. Do you ever play extremely well for a few days, go a week playing like absolute garbage, and then start playing at a high level again. I was shooting for 1900 last weekend, and I spent the past week trying to maintain 1700.
I realize one of the problems might be that when I dip below a milestone I continue to play hoping to get back, but then just fall even more. This only happens in bullet, never in any other time class.
Hey Matthew. I’ve been having a similar experience in blitz chess. I’m generally mid-1600s in strength, and one weekend, I got up to 1750. That next week, though, my rating plummeted and settled somewhere in the 1400s. I’m back into the 1650-1700 range now, but I have no idea why I played so poorly for that entire week.
