Ratings, opponents

What do you have to do to play someone on your own level, not an opponent far superior to your ability they choose for you? I keep typing in the min and max and I get an error message. Plus now I have a game that I didn't sign up for with an opening move I would never make, and I'll have to resign - no abort - what a ridiculous word to use in 2010 in chess play - they haven't heard of delete, edit, cancel??

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

What's the error message you're getting?

About the term "abort", I think it makes more sense than your "delete, edit, cancel" suggestion.

Hi, yes, I understand what it means, I just think it's an unfortunate choice of words if you get my drift.

The message I'm getting is to change the numbers - something like what my own rating which is  - 1200 - but I thought I saw it somewhere at a much lower number. I don'tknow what's being asked - it's unclear and frustrating. I realize the 1200 is a starter number ... but I don't know how to fix it.

Thanks for your response.

OK, so I'm assuming you're trying to create and open seek and getting this message:

Oops?! We noticed the following errors in your form:
Your rating range must include your own rating. Try lowering your minimum rating or increasing your maximum rating.

Well, do what it says and it should work, no? I don't know how else I can help you. What's the rating range you're putting in?

700 - 1000 along those lines, I mix it up a bit, but I keep getting that message and am teamed up consistently with players way more experienced (I'm just a year in) and don't mind playing better players but need some on my own level, otherwise it's just flagellation.

Thanks very much, I appreciate knowing that help is available!

Ok, so as the error message says, you need to make that range 700-1200. If 1200 rated players are more experienced than you and you lose a few games, don't worry about it, because you're new on this site, your rating will make quick changes and your rating will reach where it belongs quickly.

In general, it's a good idea to play against stronger opponents anyway, but as I said, just play a few games and if you lose, your rating will adjust itself.

at the moment your rating is set at 1200, therefor your seek range must have 1200 within it, your selection of 700-1000 does not cover 1200.  You need to do something like 700-1210, like the message says, increase your maximun to include your own rating. You can't pick to *only* play people significantly lower in rating If you complete a few games and lose your rating will drop and then you can lower the range to include only your new level.

Thanks I appreciate your help, I don't want "only" - only some Wink. Thanks again. Choux
