ratings
http://www.chess.com/article/view/chess-ratings---how-they-work
I found it by clickong "Help" (in the upper right hand corner of every page) and then under Popular FAQ articles I clicked on "How does chess ratings work".
Thank you Loomis. I have now read it! Maths not being my strong suit I am happy to leave such abstruse working out to those who know. Thank you Laura for your ever kind and gentle interest.
I too am confused by ratings Brian. Actually, as I understand it you can increase your ratings by playing lots of low graded opponents; this , of course does not give you a 'true' rating - which, ideally should come from playing a range of opponents. Check out my blog: 'How to spot whether someone is over or under-graded.' Leave a comment!
Can anyone tell me where I can find out how the changes in rating are calculated? Not worried or complaining, just curious.
