Reading "My System"

Hello,
I decided start reading one of the most classic chess books ever written “My System” by Nimzowitsch, Aron .
A great book I assume you have the Quality version of the book that came out in 2006? I've got the Hays version from when I was young (still have the book) it's really dog eared chewed yellowed and beaten up one day I'll buy a new copy of his book and throw the old one in the recycle bin.
If you re-read it several times you can get alot out of it then follow up with his other book Praxis. My System is not easy read it's alot of work some men have been driven to tears by it and have torn their hair out!
Good luck to you if you've got the better copy of his work!

If you're interested, you can also check out killegarchess's videos on the book to supplement your reading.
In any case, keep us updated. Best wishes!

My System is chess classic that is a must read for every chess player that wants to improve. There player can learn chess terms and new prerspective of seing things. I can say that this book is like stepping stone, for learning other more complex book later on.

It's a great book but one drawback seems to be his downplay of active piece play. Chess is all about piece activity and this basic point shouldn't be lost on anyone.

What rating should one have before he reads "My System"?
I play online about 1200... I think I get a lot out of it...

I'd say once you are confident with tactics and endgames, then you are ready to start assimilating positional concepts.

The 'elements' section is probably good and highly recommended for most people who have mastered the basics, although I have to admit much of the strategy stuff in part 2 was a bit too much for me and I'm not sure I got that much out of it.
