Real battles and chess

I was just thinking about what is the story of the well known battle between the White Army and the Black one.

I imagined those two armies, white's one catching the black one by surprise, so black had to lose time to organize his position (that's why white starts first). About the pieces, it seems very clear that the bishop, though being a bishop, must be an archer unit; the knight, well, not even going to say it: the rooks are obviously the artillery. What about the Queen?

I bet she is the Mage of the army.

I'd love to hear other speculations about how to think chess as a real battle :)
