I agree, that the rating number should not be the focus, but it was one means of measuring your progress. How do people measure their improvement, other than by rating?
Reasonable Rate of Progression?
I'm wondering that myself. Maybe some kind of workbook that tests your understanding? If you are like 2000 in tactics but 1200 in rook endings then you know what hole in your understanding you need to take care of next, then pump up your 1400 understanding of queen endgames, then 1450 understanding of static pawn centers, etc.
I have been playing chess for about a month. My rating has fluctuated between 800-850 for the last 3 weeks or so. Of course, rating isn't my primary concern (improving is) but out of curiosity I was wondering what a reasonable target might be.Assuming I put in about 10-20 hours/week of play and study.Perhaps this isn't ever a reasonable question, I'm just trying to give myself a goal in terms of rating progression.
