Hey guys! i got into chess before a month and a half and i see that improve very quickly if i really try to win the games i'm playing! (playing for fun and sometimes trying very risky moves - atleast for my rating - but i start climbing)

I wanted to ask you, dear fellow friends, which books you can recommend me as a beginner chess player? (also i'm learning through chess.com lessons, very useful)

The books i currently have are:

How to win bobby Fischer

gary kasparov teaches chess

and another very old opening moves book

Thanks!

Also, if anyone wanna play casually, just for fun to get me to improve (or even to improve by himself if he has similar rating to me), feel free to add me! happy.png

I am not familiar with "How to win Bobby Fischer".  Do you mean "How to Beat Bobby Fischer" by Edmar Mednis?

And Kasparov wrote a book in the 80's called "Gary Kasparov Teaches Chess." Is that the one you have?

Have you read either/both of them?

Hi there, welcome to the world of chess! There are some great titles I'd recommend to read as a beginner, such as:

  • Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess

This is a book of puzzles and tactics written by Bobby Fischer, and is excellent for picking up some of the primary fundamentals to focus on as a beginner!

  • The Complete Book of Chess Strategy

This is a book by IM Jeremy Silman of basic opening ideas, as well as principles and concepts that are worth studying as a beginner!

There are plenty of pieces of chess literature out there to study, but one piece of advice I'll offer is to simply play more chess! Implement what you learn from your studies into your games, make mistakes, and learn from them! Feel free to shoot me a challenge if you'd like to play sometime! happy.png

I recommend Silman’s books.

I’m currently reading his complete endgame course, it is concise, informative, and in general just a good read.

I highly recommend a book I believe out-of-print (but you can find it online.)

Don't take my word for it being a good book either!... here is a GM reviewing it!

The Book: Svetozar Gligoric's 'I Play Against Pieces' (2003) reviewed by GM Jesse Kraai (video 2020)... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pcdt-s5BRI
