I recently started playing again after some time, and I noticed that I am only able to do three puzzles before it comes up with the premium option. If I remember correctly, weren't you able to do five puzzles before it came up with the message?
I think they did change it last year.

Yeah, it definitely has changed since then. Looking at the way back machine, back in January the page said I could do 5 puzzles a day:
