Reopen (or convert Rapid to Daily)?

We have a Rapid-10 where opponent had to leave so he resigned.  But we were both REALLY LOVING the game and we want to finish it.

Is there a way I can grab the PGN (as example) and start a new game (hopefully Daily Game) and continue even if we don't count it as a 'real' game?  It's just that we want the spirit of game to live again.

I suppose we just provide the notation and one manually moves (like in Analysis) but I figure there are others who've already done this so ideas appreciated!!

Sometimes (I swear), games themselves feel alive and should be resuscitated, such as this game.  happy

Yes. Send a direct challenge. The easiest way to do it is to send a direct challenge to them, and during the configuration screen, select “Custom Position/Odds” “Set Up Position”, and remake the position manually. You can actually do this with live games as well.

Yep, Direct Challenge + Custom/odds is the solution. But there’s a way to not have to manually setup the position:
Open the game and click to see the final position, then click on the "share" button on bottom of move list (the 3 connected dots) and select "PGN". Then you copy the first one that is actually the FEN. FEN is a particular position with all available moves where PGN is a list of move that will reach a particular position.

Then you start a new game and you can select either "play a friend" or "custom". And in the game type, select Custom setup/ odds and click on the default “auto balance”. But instead of setting up the position, use the option "FEN" and paste! Voila!

FEN?? I've always wanted to find out about FEN but never took the time! I'm still a bit unclear on the difference but once I do it, like most things, it'll become clear.

Where would I be if not for this wonderful forum full of gracious folks willing to use their time to help?

FEN is a basically a code that says what is in each square of a chessboard, then it says what castling rights are there, whose turn it is to play (and can mention En passant rights if relevant). So it’s like a screenshot of a chessboard. You can actually learn how to write it, if you like it. But it’s best to use to setup analysis boards or challenge friends or bots from positions.

A PGN is more like a storybook of a chess game. It will tell you all the moves and then there are also fields for names of players, ratings, event name, game name, event place, date, time, round, ECO (starting position).

There’s a short article here: https://support.chess.com/en/articles/8598397-what-are-pgn-fen
