Resigning .. when part of a "Team Match"

Recently an opponent resigned Both games against Ish, as part of a "Team Match"

Granted, in one instance, the opponent was Losing, and likely would have lost .. but in the other instance we were only a few moves in.

While Ish understands some players prefer to resign when they feel they're losing .. It seems Extra inappropriate to do so, when your resignation will reflect badly for your Team

Is this a common practice??/Is Ish just being overly cranky about it?

You r not feeling overly cranky i like feeling the satisfaction of winning

It is annoying if they resign

i think you should play team matches the same you play regular matches.  if you feel it is appropriate to resign in your position then you should do so.

Thank you both for Expressing/Explaining your positions

Aside from Usual discomfort with Resignation, it just seems MORE inapporpriate to resign when it's not just Your OWN record that's gonna be besmirched should you not win

That said, Ish's team is clearly gonna lose .. so maybe that's part of why they felt free to Resign

I'm actually becoming a big fan of resigning! There are so many different positions I've seen that are resignable in my games, that I think I'm almost at the professional level of resigning! I actually study Grandmaster games looking for rare or sophomoric resignable positions! And of course, I'm always hoping to resign a game in front of a stadium filled with people!Smile

I went through your game record and found the player you're talking about; he quit the group that the match was for.

If I had a penny for every game where I've got myself into a resignable position but eventually won ... hmmm ... I thought it'd be more than that ...

Nice one NickYoung5 ..

Even if it is a "hopeless" battle .. something might be learned while getting a Good Thrashing

Over on Gameknot, Ish used to ask opponents if something went Bluey on their end if a sudden resignation happened .. often there was some sort of personal crap going on .. so maybe it's the same on here .. but it does seem to happen rather often

Thanks! I've got to admit that I stole that line from Phineas and Ferb though

One should remember, 'don't resign until you are completely baffled'. I usually wait until the third move, because chess is psychological warfare!Laughing

and always cry for a while before resigning, too.

In O.T.B.  we were supposed to consult the team captain if we intended to offer or accept a draw.  This was in the backwoods of Australia 45yrs ago.
