Resigning versus Letting Time Run Out in Bullet

Sort:
romy2gs

Let's say there is 5 seconds left for your opponent and 25 seconds left for you, but the opponent is clearly winning.  You could run the clock down and win, or you could admit defeat and resign.  Which is more appropriate in bullet?

PrawnEatsPrawn

Run the slowcoach out of time.

Arctor

Most appropriate would be to not play bullet at all Kiss

Solution: play an action game. At least that won't hurt your chess

Depends on the position. If the opponent can premove, and has shown that this is something they are capable of, then resign. Otherwise win on time.

In bullet, 5 seconds is an eternity.

haha.  ok, so from the very beginning of my bullet game, I'm utilizing bad chess etiquette.

ozzie_c_cobblepot

The important thing is do you think you're using bad chess etiquette?

PrawnEatsPrawn

Whatever you do, following a win on time in a lost position, don't type "gg"..... some on this site would expire with rage.

It is bullet. Take the win. It is completely "fair" as if they didn't want to play bullet, they didn't have to.
khpa21

It is 100% fair to win on time in bullet.

FrisbeeRob

Think of it this way: They used more time then you which made their decisions more well informed. That is the trade off in bullet chess. If they take too much time to make too well informed decisions then they should lose if they can't checkmate in time.

zuluwatt

Time is part of the game, take the win.

DrawMaster

OK, let's change it to Blitz? Do you resign? Or Standard, do you resign?

Of course not. The fact that the game is Bullet is largely immaterial. Many games of OTB chess come down to time scrambles for both sides. If the clock wasn't part of the game, we wouldn't be using 'em.
