resigning when queen is lost?

Not that long ago I was rated under 900 (chess.com) and when I closed my last account (I had resolved to take a long break from chess) I was getting close to 1900. My current account is very new. In any case, my advice to the OP would be the same way that I improved:

Go over the rules of chess again. Make sure you're familiar with all the rules.

SLOW DOWN. Play much longer time control. 45/45 or daily chess.

Don't just play and forget. Study why you lost/won.

Think carefully before each move. Think again.

Study the endgame. Learn about each piece in space. The nature of each piece in space. Learn about theoretical draws, triangulation, opposition, etc.

Learn the tactics. Pins. Skewers. Removing the defender. Forks. Double attacks. Etc.

Learn about strategy. Critical squares. The relevant considerations of open/closed positions. Central control. Etc.

Lastly, learn an opening you like for white out of 1. e4 and three openings for black (one for e4, d4, and c4 - each starting with e5, d5, and c5 respecitively) and stick with them. Don't play anything else. Don't learn anything else.

Again, slow way down. Think before each move. Think again. Stretch your brain.

That analysis was just what I saw on my first glance, also I changed Qd3 to Qd5 in a later comment, which doesn’t allow d5.
MitSud
Also I didn’t use an engine
MitSud
The engine doesn’t predict a massive difference between Kf1 and Ke2, also when ur playing blitz in a quick time control, I would just play Ke2 and save the rook, that would be most players instincts, I guess other than people like Naka or Carlsen, who could probably calculate another 10 forced lines in the space I could calculate 1.
MitSud
I don’t think the player realised Kf1 was better than Ke2, he probably thought he had made a massive blunder after his opponent took the rook.
MitSud
Also ur right the opportunity isn’t there on move 6 because of a 4 move forced line which 800s normally wouldn’t be able to calculate, involving a pawn sac of one of the center pawns, where white is much better.
MitSud
Sorry 3 move
MitSud
One variation of that anyway
MitSud
Also the resulting position after Qd3 is still extremely good for white, even with engine moves
MitSud
And there’s no point having engines to analyse at an 800 level or our level, it’s not very helpful at all, u don’t learn as much, it should be used just to check ur own analysis
MitSud
Most of my analysis was just saying when someone blundered a piece of a pawn, there’s not a whole lot to understand there.

I can tell.

MitSud
I think ur advice is great LosingandLearning, I just want to add just checking when pieces are attacked, not sufficiently defended, or undefended, will just get rid of the ridiculous amount of 0 move blunders ( just hanging material)
MitSud
My entire analysis took under a minute
MitSud
Basically not giving up material for no reason at that level, probably would help a lot, and taking free material

Lol in ur game against de minimis two games ago, he resigned while completely winning.

Wrong. wink.png He was dead lost and actually in danger of losing his queen without accurate play.

In any case, and no matter what he could've possibly played, he resigned while completely losing.

He was completely winning if and only if he played 10...h5! - which was a move I overlooked when playing 8. Nbc3.  Of course I saw the bishop sac but calculated the Qg5 line - of which 11.Nxe4 is crushing for white. Which was, fortunately, the line black played.

Ergo, when he resigned he was in fact dead lost.

Just FYI. Im using chess.com on a mobile device. I dont receive notifications when there is a response on here.

First and foremost, thank you for the analysis. It was very much what i was looking for, albeit very complex for my current understanding. Your depth of play is far greater than mine at the moment.

I am taking steps to work toward making more logical moves, although in blitz, I do admit that it is hard with such a time restriction to make the most logical move at my current level.

I have resolved to play one game a day, maybe two with 24hrs time controls. This allows me to better judge which moves to make. Truth be told, its hard to focus on such games for me with life in the background (im a paramedic with two kids). I used the tactics trainer multiple times a day and attempt lessons but time is restricting as it is now.

Currently Im working, learning to говорит русский (speak russian), am reading Von Clausewitz, and trying to advance in chess study.

I may have too many things going at once, but I am trying to improve.

Thus and lastly, i do appreciate all analysis, showing the bad and good. Thank you and I apologize in advance if it takes me a while to respond, due to lack of notifications on this mobile app

Hey good luck. Yes, my advice is to slow down and play turn-based/daily chess a while. Get a few games going of that - 3 days/move - and simply take your time and spend a very long while studying each position before moving. Obviously I still have a long, long way to go myself. And that's really the best way to get there IMO. The more you think - stretch your brain - the deeper and deeper you go into a position, stretching your brain, you will learn patterns and themes - gain familiarity - it will become easier to go deeper (and still deeper) in the future. Chess is all about recognizing themes, recognizing principles, recognizing patterns - knowing intuitively what to do because it all flows the way it's always flowed. And you know it and feel it quite well. You get there by pushing yourself - pushing your brain. Again and again. Just like in body building you start with low weights and go from there as you become strong - but ONLY by challenging yourself, straining yourself ever more. You have to crawl before you can walk, walk before you can run.

Nf4 in that position is completely winning for white, this time I did use an engine.
