Resigning with dignity

  I know i am not the only one that has had to live with this, just want to get your opinion on it. I recently had a game where i had King and 2 Queens vs. a Lone King and had to sit and wait for 2 days to get the win because my opponent decided it would be more fun to make me wait for him to run out of time then to resign with some dignity. I can assure you we will never play again.

My opinion is problem solved. You will never play him again. No worries. I wouldn't play him again either unless he came back and apologized and maybe offered some reason for the timeout, like his dog ate the keyboard.

I don't think it is a very good comment on oneself to timeout of a game in that situation. However, it seems a lot of people are hounding this and other topics to the point of distraction.

I'm not saying you are, i see you are just asking for opinions on the topic. It has been discussed before at nauseating depth (or shallowness as it seems) throughout these forums. Ethics and good practices in gamesmanship on chess.com, and people's expectations from their competitors.

That is one of the nice things about chess, many people expect good sportsmanship at chess events and on chess sites. It seems ingrained in the process of learning chess that sportsmanship is important. As important (or perhaps almost as important) as learning openings and tactics.

Unfortunately it's not always the case with online chess. Online chess is good for chess because it opens the game to all new sorts, and brings in a lot of new people. But it also becomes difficult to teach the sportsmanship side of it. A very human element is just not there, and if people don't have the common decency to be polite... there is little we can do about it.

My two cents!!!

Does this server have 'abort out' on 1st move if you haven't made a move? This could save you from playing the dunderhead again. Unfortunately it is hard to shield yourself from the idiocy that is humanity. Shrug.

I think they may be hoping that we become frustrated and they will escape with either a time out win or a stalemate-by-mistake. I had a guy offer me a draw the other night with his king against two rooks and a knight.

Hello;

I  try NOT to take the game of CHESS too seriously. I am seventy-two years YOUNG, but have a slight HEART condition.

If I took CHESS too seriously, and I was LOSING... GOD knows what would happen to me. That is WHY I  at least TRY to win EVERY game without EXCEPTION.  And WINNING is IMPORTANT to my MORALE......l sleep BETTER.... I EAT better.. (Not my opponents pieces, mind you), I'm in a BETTER mood for the next game,

And I DON'T believe in RESIGNATIONS. the  either CHECK--MATE me, and if they DO..... I'll take it like a man... and then I'll WORRY about my blood pressure, LATER!!!

CHESS is a VERY SERIOUS game to some people. If they don't WIN..... then they DEVELOP an INFERIORITY complex. And NOBODY wants to FEEL inferior to some CREEP.

I was one move away from a back rank checkmate and some dude ran 7 minutes off the clock before he moved. So I ran all my time out before making my final move and he called me a bad sport. Lol

Push the draw button, and pray to god that your opponent isn't some sorta tryhard.
