once i resinged in a game and a puppy died. now i never resign. i just type homophobic slurs in the chat box and waste all my opponent's time.

i resign when my angel whispers to me to ... if that's one move before checkmate, that's when i do it.
Unless you're Donald Byrne letting a young Bobby Fischer checkmate you because you is gentlemanleh, I think you should resign in a lost position unless your opponent is a weak enough to allow back ranks or something.
