Resigning...

What is your opinion? On the one hand, resigning steals both the other players tactics brush up, plus stealing their sense of achievement, but on the other hand, the game can get rather boring if you don't resign. Please, state your opinions.

P.S Who ever looks at their hand and says that they only see mouse/rat/nothing, they get to go sit in the cyber corner.

P.P.S Whoever tells me that the cyber corner doesn't exist, they get to sit in the real corner.

P.P.P.S No other reason than that I wanted to write P.P.P.S.

I think if Picasso translated his painting to a forum posting form, he couldn't have done so well !

There comes a point when a person knows that no amount of luck will change the outcome of the game. At that point is best to resign and move on.

But if you are extremely lucky, your opponent might be a hacker, which gets banned just after getting 6-7 extra queens against you. Then you win (or draw if there is insufficient mating material)

Perfect rule for resigning, discussion over. Otherwise, it becomes a waste of time for both players.

Agreed

I just resigned a game a few minutes ago because I was down a rook and about to lose pawns going into the endgame.  It just became boring and frustrating.

Thanks guys, especially Ziggy_Zugzwang! I would, however like to refrain from arguementation that gets contradictory, or nasty.

Yes... your point?

That seems contradictory. And kinda on the rude side. No more of that please.

As my buddy Bart Simpson once said,  "Danmed if you do damned if you don't." - Brownie points if you know why he said this.

+13 brownie points to you sir.

Oh awesome. Now, may I please ask what this has to do with resigning?

Avatar of kleelof

Sorry. This is a topic that has been beat to death already in so many other forum posts. I thought I would just interject something a bit more entertaining.

But I do think "damned if you do, damed if you don't" can be applied to resigning.

OK.

At some point in time, you have to know when to stop the bloodshed.

Yep that's pretty much how I see it. A win is a win so resignation has no effect :) Still I generally like to fight to the end; I've pulled off a few crazy stalemates before haha

You get rainbow-kitty brownie points if you can tell me what that's from.
