I love how you challenged the center with that pawn on move 2. You should do that more often.  And you did fairly well developing (still more pawn moves than preferred - use those tempos to develop!).

What I didn't like... ya have to start protecting your king better. Don't move pawns in front of king! In that game, you should've been looking to castle queen-side because the king-side was way too vulnerable.

Ya missed some hanging pieces - happens to everyone, but I'm surprised you missed RE-CAPTURING pieces? When they capture, most of the time - capture back.?.

Give 'em hell Doker!

well this lunch play is a break even session-- will try again after nap --- yes i know i missed pieces and i should move further out into centre four squares-- one of my new problems i see happening is i  play too defensively-need to attack more -- or at least i think so

need to know when to castle queen side when to castle king side -- any help there ???- how do you know which ?

I agree with attacking, but only AFTER your pieces are developed. Otherwise, attacking rarely works.

I castle king-side 95% of the time and recommend you do the same.  I makes for safer - easier positions. The only time I castle queen-side is when I'm forced because their pawns are storming my king-side and castling to that side would be too dangerous with pawns ready to rip open my position.

I only recommended castling queen-side in that last game was because you had already opened up your own king by moving so many pawns. I'd prefer you NOT move those pawns and castle normally. They protect your king!!!

You must always castle king when you've pushed the h or a pawn. make a ball, a ball is very hard to crush!

A position from your last game...

Black to move.  Can't say this enough - ROOKS LOVE OPEN & SEMI-OPEN FILES.  Especially when they line up with opponent's King or Queen or in this case BOTH.  The correct move here is Rook e8.  If/when your knight moves, it creates a "discovered" attack on his king/queen/both.  Even if nothing was there, the rook still wants to be on e8 controlling all those squares down the e file.

Lesson - rooks love open files.  Live it, love it, learn it!  Give 'em hell Doker!

i see the rooks move idea -- wed afternoon session went as was expected - about even  when i play a player at about 160 &170 up they have better middle game than i do and i always get myself into trouble -- and only when they make a blunder do i get out of it -- on to tomorrow -- new day new time new blunders--haha

losing badly now-- wed night can't sleep and iam playing wrong move i think-- slipping all the gains i made away -- maybe luck will change thursday morning -- if not in big trouble - i can feel it -one more game for the night back to bed then

Avatar of dokerbohm

well its over 2 hours now that i can't play a real player yet -- i get it i don't pay to play here but many do and i feel sorry if you do pay and not getting the service you should and have payed for

they should stop all new entrees to this site until they get this fixed - and next if that doesn't work they should put all free paying members  on hold also me included i wouldn't mind for the cuase -- till they get this fixed so at least paying customers would get to play -- and then if that doesn't work --- well !!!!!!! just freaking get this fixed - ban everyone till its fixed - and refund all those paying customers -- i was just ready to get into paying here -- but will hold off till it gets  fixed ---- if you have reach out and get help --- your customer base has very and i mean very  talented software and hardware engineers whom i have talked to --there are hundreds if  not thousands of people here who could and i think would help -- come boys and girls -- help this old sick man out --get the !@#$%^&* thing fixed

You're a stubborn man.  All the advice, repeating opening principles, encouraging king protection... yet here we are.

Center control - broke that rule

Don't move queen early - broke that rule

King protection - broke that rule

Don't move same piece until fully developed - broke that rule

Develop pieces quick - broke that rule

..........................................................................................

You won and didn't blunder many pieces (unlike your opponent). And ya found a nice checkmate at the end. That's all good. The bad - ya broke every opening principle in the book.  My heart can't take any more of those types of games.  I've seen you play good openings, so I know you can do it.  Give 'em hell Doker.

That was an impressive game though! You saw pretty much all of his hanging pieces. You probably are making progress, even if you don't notice.

Avatar of dokerbohm

well you are right as always i knew when i started that game it was down hill just got lucky with so many mistakes also by my opponent i was able to pull it off -- next game i will try for those foward squares more i feel uneasy about it leaving my queen and king so open - but i will try it - maybe breaking less this time moves about openings you  keep telling to not do  will be back after med nap  thanks as always for the advice
