same with me tonygar ... i like to fianchetto bishopsearly, even before knight development ... they often seem to menace the opponent right from the beginning right through to an early checkmate without ever moving ... rooks are more problematic because you need pawn breaks or some other way to get them out into action ... also you need to castle, clear the back rank, etc ... and if you double the rooks then you need space and fine timing ... and when rooks do become mobile, their relative high points value means you can't put them into the thick of the action so readily ... basically i am at the stage of trying hard to think ahead of possible ways to get them into play from midpoint in openings (move 4 or 5) but it's a lot harder than with bishops ... i am hoping there's a secret that will suddenly reveal itself ... soon
I've been trying to read some books to get better and have discovered that i am much stronger with bishops than rooks. my game has improved dramatically(still needs lots of work) and even when i lose it's not an easy victory for my opponent. if only i could have this kind of breakthrough with the rest of my game. any ideas?
