64_squares00 is very rude and starts swearing and rude comments againts opponents when he loses! I find this with most chess players. Very Sad chess players have no etiquette. There is no excuse for this. So you all play nice now and try to type TFG Thanks for game and YRW You R Welcome for a change. You all have a nice day!

corum

Rude behaviour happens on chess.com. But I find it very rare actually. If you meet someone like that just don't play them again or turn off chat.

Erik_29

They can't be rude if you keep chat disabled 😁

wubberz

sometimes you're just in the mood for a chill game and you're having an interesting game and you blunder somewhere, your opponent wins and when you're about to say "gg" or "well played" you get a message like "HA HA!" or something extremely childish and arrogant. That really grinds my gears

TheronG12

If your opponent is rude, disable chat, block him, report him if he said anything really inappropriate, and then play someone else.

ChessMN16

@wubberz: Do you play with anyone around? If not, just vent off a bit IRL and post gg anyway. A rude person can't stand someone being nice to them, right?

@ChessMN16 Thanks for your reply

I think the one best thing to do is to keep one's eyes on playing the best chess "you" can

I think it's kind of weak of me and other players to lose our heads because of this. This is how wars start. If there weren't any people -let's say- wiser than the rest the world would have been destroyed many years ago. Plus nobody would have become better

When people are outrightly rude, I'll usually tell them that chess is a gentleman's game and cursing is not going to get them anything. If they continue, I usually remark on their lack of verbal intelligence in their low ability to express themselves, then thank them for the game and shut off chat.

You are right, it's so easy to start being rude back and I'm definitely not a saint on that point either.. It really does make you a better person to stay above that though and show people by example how they should be behaving instead.

I could also rephrase that and say small dogs bark, big dogs don't give a shit.

Hot heads should never play competitive games. They usually thrive on winning streaks and lose their cool when faced with a loss. Don't be affected with the level of stress they're putting on you. It's just a game anyway.

True.

I do find that if I compliment his play despite his rude behavior another "side" of the person might show up. :)

I do tend try to give most people the benifit of the doubt after what I think is a rude comment... they might be really down and their comments reflect that or maybe its me that misinterprets what is said... the written word does not contain much inflection ...

and yet there are those that really deserve a...

These threads always make me feel bad because, as far as I can remember, I only ever had one opponent that you might call rude. But it was pretty mild.

Perhaps someone here can give me suggestions on how to get people to be rude to me so I can feel like part of the crowd.Laughing

Fortunately, I think the wiser ones (whatever that means) are those who thrive.

Bullet attracts hordes of rude people...

thegreat_patzer

we should have a poll kleeloff.  ppl are almost never rude to me, either?  and yet it is a neverending discussion on the chess.com forum.

is it the rating? is it the time control?  perhaps when you are new your matched to less polite opponents??

If this doesn't incite some interesting hate on the home page; perhaps we will never know...

I suppose another issue might be the number of games you are playing. Many people play 30+ games A DAY. that is about 200 games a week. It would take me months to play that number of games.

So, it may just be that some are playing so many games, they encounter rude players more often.

Another issue may be that these people who complain about it are either 1. Overly sensitive and exaturating or, 2. They are chronic fair play violators and are playing in the pool with the other chronic fiar play violators.

I think this bullet thing might have some merit to it. Bullet chess really requires hardly any more intelligence or skill than candy crushers or angry birds. So I'm sure it is full of morons.

I rarely have seen rude behavior during turn base chess....but live bullet chess more common... I think it attracts more people that are socially etiquette challenged lol

lovethetrees

i have come across several who are seriously rude.most recently being neuzasantiago

squared_1

I remember someone trash talking, swearing, making threats, in a tournament. I don't remember the person's name, but he was bullying lower rated opponents. I heard a few people in the tournament reporting him. I've seen more rude chess players in real life, like opponents not shaking hands when they win, or trash talking. I don't know if your opponents shake they're heads because you made the wrong move is rude, but in my opinion kind of is. Also when I lost against a higher rated player, they were saying how bad I was against them. That was 80% rude.
