If somebody starts insulting me, there is nothing better than muting the chat anyway. Why would I want to listen to his rubbish anyway :)
you should let them rant on, they will be losing time on the clock, giving you good winning chances.

Really, there are deranged people on Chess.com, it seems to slow down once you start playing 1200 and higher rated players. So you might not run into it depending on your rating. The worst incident I had was when a player beat me bad and the whole while was insulting me and then threatened my life. So odd.
