Rules question

Is it illegal to talk with people while your walking around and such during games and tell them how you think you're doing as long as they don't actually talk about the game?
someone at my club blew up when he caught his opponent talking to me after I finished up but all he said was he was up a pawn and he liked his position a lot better and I just nodded... . Seems like no harm no foul to me..

Youre not allowed to discuss an ongoing game. And should not talk with someone that is playing, unless it is away from the game area.
It was away from the game area he was heading to the bathroom, and I guess the question here is what constitutes a "discussion"

If its away from the game, you can have a discussion, but it cannot be about the ongoing game. Technically, youre not even supposed to ask: "Hows your game going?" But...that does happen.
alright thanks, good to know for the future. I don't feel too bad about it because I'm not sure how it could've influenced anything even remotely but the rules are the rules

For the most part, not many have an issue with asking how a game is going. But you will run into that rare person that is a stickler for the rules.
