modern is a very unconfrontational opening but it does give good winning chances as you strike later in the opening

Against 1.e4 play the Latvian Gambit if the opportunity arises. Under the conditions outlined by the OP this is the best choice vs 1.e4.

I'd say it depends on what you want to achieve happy.png + considering your current level and the position you like to achieve. For me, any imbalanced position is fine happy.png I appreciate technical positions but also like to calculate a lot, so sharp and dynamic ones are a great choice from time to time.

However, it all comes down to my current opening repertoire that I am playing. I've just happened to have published a blog post on how to build an opening repertoire. There, I'll also go into details as to what to consider when choosing opening lines and systems.
