As a new player, I have no idea which one to play.

Both are good. Scotch personally is better for defense.

Ruy lopes is more complicated so if ur a beginner then I would recomend the scotch over the ruy lopes.

Ruy lopez is slightly better but more theoretical. Scotch is great option at all levels including beginners But ruy lopez is great too, if you are disposed to learn the lines it's a great opening

Ruby Lopez exchange is my absolute go to. Often allows continued pressure, but there is some memorizing.

Scotch because they will take the pawn and you can develop your Queen

basically, do you want to immediately release tension in the center and keep a smaller version of white's advantage or do you wish to fight for the whole thing but learn long lines to do so?

The Scotch Game is much better in my opinion because you are able to get more pieces out on the board and you can control the center more with that opening. Ruy Lopez isnt bad, I just dont know much about it.
